Vision Statement

Located in the heart of the nation's capital, the Human Services & Social Justice Program at The George Washington University fulfills its mission by situating our scholarship at the nexus of individual, organizational, and systemic dynamics.

The interdisciplinary program synthesizes and advances knowledge in human services through a development of critical thinking and an improvement of skills in written and oral communication.

HSSJ students engage in active, experiential service-learning, first developing the foundations for critically thinking about social issues and stressed communities, then developing the skills and theoretical base to tackle these problems, and eventually developing mastery in order to enter the human services field as engaged scholar-practitioners and lifelong learners who are able to solve complex, unscripted problems while working in and with diverse communities to promote self-sufficiency and social justice.
