Katherine Loos, BA'20 has created her own non-profit organization.
"Girlz by Design is a virtual learning program which offers students a platform to exhibit their creative work, to gain practical career advice from design professionals, and to build a lasting supportive community. Our mission is to empower, motivate, and educate young womxn creatives in high schools across the DMV region by preparing them to succeed in the new digital era.
We do so by:
- Holding weekly hour-long sessions with lesson plans and guest speakers covering a wide range of design fields.
- Assigning a semester-long project inviting students to design novel solutions to pressing issues in their communities.
- Equipping students with practical skills to succeed in their future education and careers.
Girlz by Design is currently working with students at Anacostia High School. This semester, our workshops include discussions on design thinking, UX/UI design, animation and gaming, zine making, and fashion design. The students will be hearing from creative professionals at National Geographic and New Balance to build their awareness of various design and tech fields."
